We hope you had a great July 4th holiday weekend!  Bell is back for this short week with Red, White & Bleu as we now focus on the wines of France for the remainder of July, and our Grand French Tasting on Wednesday, July 13th (the eve of Bastille Day).

In addition, we must announce that we will discontinue parking validations due to a change in policies of our (former) partner garage. Bell will continue to provide the best value and service to our customers, but the announced changes make further validation non-viable. Of course, if parking is a problem, remember you can order online or call ahead and we will put your order together and bring it out to your vehicle as you pass by the shop. Thanks for your understanding and continued support.

Saturday Tasting -

Wines On Sale

The wines below will be on sale through Saturday, July 9th:

Saturday’s tasting featured all American wines, in honor of Independence Day. Despite the holiday, we saw a multitude of tasters and folks stocking up for the long weekend.  The identity of the Mystery Wine is:

Silver Lake Merlot 2008 (reg. $11.99) $10.79/10.19
Surprise! We were a bit sneaky this week, choosing a Merlot for the mystery wine, with another Merlot in the tasting lineup. With smoky, toasted oak prevalent, hints of red cherry, plum and melon peek through. This an earthy wine, begging to be paired with roasted meat or vegetable dishes.

Other wines in the tasting included:

Pedroncelli East Side Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2009 (reg. $13.99) $12.59/11.89
This Dry Creek Sauvignon Blanc leans toward fruit flavors, rather than grassy or herbaceous qualities. It displays flavors of lemon, grapefruit and peach which are enhanced by a nice acidity and a citrus finish. The perfect wine for a hot, humid DC Saturday!

Taft Street Riesling 2008 (reg. $12.99) $11.69/11.04
This Riesling from California’s Russian River Valley has a very interesting and distinctive palate. With muted and soft peach and pear notes in the front, the finish explodes with tang. This off-dry wine is very pleasant.

Beringer Napa Valley Chardonnay 2008 (reg. $12.99) $11.69/11.04
With rich, ripe fruit flavors and very balanced and subtle oak, this is a great Chardonnay for those who profess to hate Chardonnay. Aromas of vanilla and lemon evolve into flavors of lemon custard and hazelnut. The luscious mouthfeel is nicely balanced by bright citrus notes.

Pedroncelli Pinot Noir 2009 (reg. $17.99) $16.19/15.29
Hailing from the Russian River Valley, this Pinot is elegant and medium-bodied. Aromas of cherry and raspberry come through on the palate. A touch of clove and toasted oak round out the finish. This is a soft and velvety wine, offering juicy notes and a hint of spice.

Ledgewood Creek Merlot 2007 (reg. $18.99) $17.09/16.14
This Merlot from Suisun Valley has a strong nose of black currants and raisins. Fifteen months in French oak barrels is evident, though the strong dried fruit notes balance out the wine, making it a pleasant and tasty red.

Edmonds Arpajon FR 2008 (reg. $21.99) $19.79/18.69
This delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (52%) and Merlot (48%) from Horse Heaven Hills in Washington State has a soft, red fruit aroma. Rich flavors of blackberry and lavender are complemented by toasty oak and vanilla notes. For a flavorful, full-bodied wine, it has a very light finish.

Bogle Petite Sirah 2008 (reg. $12.99) $11.69/11.04
This Petite Sirah is full-bodied on the entry, with aromas of plum and oak. Luscious flavors of boysenberry and blackberry are framed by solid tannins. Hints of leather and vanilla, and a nice acidity finish the wine.
