Saturday Tasting -

Wines On Sale

The wines below will be on sale through Saturday, September 17th:

This picture perfect Saturday was long overdue.  In addition to our regulars, the weather also brought out a few tourists from nearby hotels who found us while exploring the neighborhood.   They fit right in, and were equally impressed with the approachability of the selections.

The identity of the Mystery Wine is:

HOB NOB Pinot Noir 2010 (reg. $8.99) $8.09/7.64
The Mystery Wine was a big hit and a big surprise.  Tasters loved the value, but the varietal was not so obvious.  This very affordable Pinot Noir from France's Languedoc-Roussillon has aromas and smooth flavors of black cherry and lavender.  Refined, elegant, and very drinkable, this is one of our most popular Pinots. A TERRIFIC WINE FOR THE PRICE!!!

Other wines in the tasting included:

Clean Slate Riesling 2010 (reg. $10.99) $9.89/9.34

This Riesling from Germany’s Mosel is fresh and balanced, with a very clean taste.  Ripe peach flavors balance a fair amount of acidity, with hints of lime and minerality.  This wine begs to be paired with Asian dishes, spicy foods, sushi, and fish.

Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Gris 2009 (reg. $18.99) $17.09/16.14
This Oregonian Pinot Gris follows the traditional Alsatian style.  The wine opens with bright, clean aromas of pear and green apple. The palate is round and creamy, with a good acid balance that highlights flavors of lime and lemongrass. A small addition of Pinot Blanc, picked very ripe, adds a rich mouthfeel, and a portion of the wine’s treatment in barrel adds a bit of toasty oak.

Yin Yang Pinot Grigio Rose 2010 (reg. $16.99) $15.29/14.44.34

This juicy and bright rose from the Willamette Valley gets its color from soaking on Pinot Grigio grape skins.  Ripe strawberry and tart cherry notes come through on the palate, with a light touch of savory spice.  This is a light and delicious wine to pair with salads, sushi and other light fare.

Morgan Cotes du Crow’s 2010 (reg. $19.99) $17.99/16.99

This blend of Grenache (50%) and Syrah (50%) from Monterey has aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and spice. The soft tannins and smooth finish make it very drinkable, while still maintaining a lot of flavor.  The black fruit and toasty oak flavors make this the perfect smooth red on its own, or paired with rustic dishes.

Alpamanta Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 (reg. $23.99) $21.59/20.39

This Mendoza Cab has a dark plum color, with rich, red berry notes and spicy, balsamic hints.  The palate has a nice, full body and tannic structure.  This is the perfect wine to pair with burgers on the grill!

Layer Cake Shiraz 2009 (reg. $17.99) $16.19/15.29

McLaren Vale is the home of great Shiraz and the Layer Cake is no exception. Dark, dense and creamy, it has aromas of spice, tobacco and mocha.  On the palate is an explosion of dark berry, black cherry, and chocolate. With a warm and velvety finish, this wine tastes more expensive than its modest price.
