Autumn is upon us...and we are busy working on Bell Wine & Spirits' annual FALL SALE! We will circulate additional information on our once-a-year special offers shortly!
In the meantime, Bell's Bourbon Sale ends Friday along with National Bourbon Heritage Month, but SAVE THE DATE: along with our friends at the National Press Club, we have scheduled a reprise of the wildly successful Jefferson Bourbon Dinner for Tuesday, October 18th! (Perhaps successful because it includes a bottle of Jefferson Bourbon, autographed by Trey Zoeller, Master Distiller, for each participant to take home!) Stay tuned for further details.....
Also on sale through Friday are wines of the Pacific Rim including: wines of California, Oregon and Washington; plus those from Chile, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan! Get 10% off 3 or more bottles, or 15% off on a case (solid or mix-n-match)!

Wines On Sale
The wines below will be on sale through Saturday, October 1st:
Our Saturday tasting boasted many of our favorite regulars and some new faces, as well. Few were able to guess the Mystery Wine, but several got close. Perhaps our coworkers from Pi Sigma Kappa could have helped...
The identity of the Mystery Wine is:
Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon NV (1.5L) (reg. $12.99) $11.69/11.04
This Cab from Robert Mondavi boasts rich dark fruit and cocoa on the nose and palate. The taste adds a bit of spice, with a hint of oak for complexity.
Other wines in the tasting included:
Foxglove Chardonnay 2009 (reg. $15.99) $14.39/13.59
This stunning Chard from Santa Barbara’s Varner Winery received 90 points from Robert Parker, and it’s easy to see why. Non-oaked and stainless steel-fermented, it sees no malolactic fermentation but still manages to be rich and round in the mouth. On the palate, there is crisp, honeyed lemon, pear, and honeysuckle notes intermixed with a hint of pineapple. With more acidity than most Chardonnays, it is a different and interesting white.
Dom Auther Pinot Auxerrois 2008 (reg. $10.99) $9.89/9.34
When was the last time you had an Auxerrois? Yes, that’s what we thought. This is a very interesting wine that blends the unique Auxerrois Blanc grape with Pinot Blanc. Auxerrois is a relative of Chardonnay and primarily gown only in the Alsace region. It’s a well-balanced and vibrant white, not too big on acid or minerality. A perfect pairing for cheeses, salads and seafood.
Grove Mill Pinot Gris 2006 (reg. $13.99) $12.59/11.89
If you like sweet wines, try out this New Zealand Pinot Gris. With a bit of age on it, it tastes like a late-harvest wine, rich and honeyed. Complex and distinctive, it shows tropical fruit aromas and a touch of musk. There is a bit of ginger on the palate and very subtle oak. Pair this with spicy foods or a fall squash.
Meinklang Pinot Noir 2009 (reg. $16.99) $15.29/14.44
Austrian Pinot, or Blauburgunder, can often be austere or vegetal. This delicious wine, made from organic grapes, from the Meinklang farms is neither. With bright fruit on the palate and a touch of spice, this is a fun wine to drink on its own or pair with lighter fare. With a nice earthy, spicy, herby, flowery aroma and an acidic medium body, this is a great not-so-typical Pinot.
Chateau de Segries Cotes-du-Rhone 2010 (reg. $12.99) $11.69/11.04
If you’re looking for a Cotes du Rhone, this is wine is very true to the traditional style. With 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, and 10% Carignan. it is ripe, rich and round, with black raspberry, white pepper and spice flavors. With only 10% of the wine seeing barrel time, it is light on oak and more of a fruit-forward red.
Falernia Syrah Riserva 2006 (reg. $13.99) $12.59/11.89
Another wine that received 90 points from Mr. Parker, this Chilean Syrah was a taster favorite. Hand-picked and aged both in oak and stainless steel, it has good fruit concentration and black pepper, red fruit, and dark chocolate on the nose and palate. Soft tannins and a touch of smoke make this a complex yet very drinkable red.
