Saturday Tasting/Wines On Sale

This beautiful, sunny afternoon brought out a plethora of tasters who enjoyed our wares. We tasted several of our new wines, many of which will be featured in Bell’s big Fall Sale. Look for them and many others at ridiculously affordable prices!
The identity of the Mystery Wine is:
Graziano Petite Sirah 2005 (reg. $16.99) $15.99/14.44
This Mendocino Petite Sirah has rustic tannins that frame the dried berry, spice, cherry and currant flavors. A bit rough-hewn and chewy, it offers a juiciness with fruit notes on the finish.
Conti Speroni Gavi 2010 (reg. $9.99) $8.99/8.49
This Cortese from the Gavi region of Piedmont, Italy, has nice aromas of white flowers and herbs. A light, dry body of crisp, clean flavors makes this a refreshing and food-friendly white. Featured in the Washington Post’s Recession Busters, it is a very affordably priced wine!
Other wines in the tasting included:
Baron de Rothschild Val de L'Ours Chardonnay 2009 (reg. $8.99) $8.09/7.64
This Chardonnay from the Languedoc is produced by the Lafites. A pale, yellow color, it has an elegant nose of citrus with a hint of papaya. With a nice round mouthfeel, it has a nice balance between acidity and smoothness. A fruit-forward Chard, it is a nice alternative to heavier, oaky versions.
Babcock Pinot Noir Rita's Earth 2009 (reg. $20.99) $18.89/17.84
This great Pinot from the Santa Rita Hills is a smooth and succulent red. While being very easy-drinking, it is fairly complex, with cherry and spice on the nose and palate. Two percent Syrah adds a bit of interest, and 7 months in 20% new French Oak adds a bit of body and flavor.
Domaine de Cortelliac Bordeaux Superior 2008 (reg. $16.99) $15.29/14.44
Superior in taste (and also .5% higher in alcohol, earning the Bordeaux Superior moniker), this new-to-Bell vintage is a tasty and drinkable blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc. Medium-bodied, with a light cranberry nose, it is tart and smooth. This is a great deal for those who like the flavors of Bordeaux but can’t afford the offerings of the high-end Chateaux.
Bisceglia Aglianico del Vulture 2008(reg. $12.99) $11.19/11.04
Aglianico is a verietal found in the Basilicata region of Italy. This version has a solid core of ripe blackberry and raspberry notes backed by dark hints of ash and tobacco. Light tannins add weight to the finish, making for a substantial red.
Piev dei Monaci Syrah (reg. $15.99) $14.39/13.61
This fantastic Italian Syrah received 90 points from Wine Spectator and it is easy to see why. With aromas and flavors of blackberry, violet, and sweet spice, it is supple and a little flashy. A medium body with good structure, the base of tannins keeps it focused and rich. A taster favorite!
