Decoy Merlot 2009 (reg. $20.99) SALE $19.99
Decoy is the venerable Duckhorn Vineyards’ second label and the quality they display is certainly apparent here. On the palate, the tannins are soft and approachable, with red fruit and cranberry notes. A velvety long finish ends with ginger, vanilla, licorice and earth. Other wines in the tasting included:
Complices de Loire Pointes d’Agrumes Touraine 2010 (reg. $10.99) $9.89/9.34
This Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire’s Touraine is packed with fresh, fruity acidity. With a bright citrus note up front, the medium palate and finish show vegetal notes of spring grass and asparagus. If you’re looking for a zesty white to make your mouth water, look no further!
Stag’s Leap Chardonnay 2010 (reg. $26.99) SALE $21.99
This toasty, oaky Chard from Napa has aromas of honeysuckle and vanilla. On the palate are apple and orange notes with a round, creamy mouthfeel. Oak-barreling, malolactic fermentation and aging on the lees make this a complex and rich wine that ends in a crisp finish.
Decoy Pinot Noir 2010 (reg. $24.99) SALE $19.99
This fantastic Pinot from Sonoma County has layers of strawberry, plum, anise and spice on the nose. On the palate are juicy red fruit notes of raspberry, cherry and plum, as well as more sophisticated elements of tobacco leaf and a mossy, green note. Decent tannins and acidity make this a great wine to enjoy now, or age!
Glop Priorat 2009 (reg. $21.99) $19.79/18.69
Comprised of Grenache (60%), Syrah (20%), Carignane (10%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), this tasty blend from Priorat has a great, rich nose of ripe blueberry and spice. A velvety medium body of tart berries, tobacco and earth is displayed. With a name like "Glop," it HAS to be good!
Zenato Ripassa 2008 (reg. $29.99) SALE $24.99
This Valpolicella that has gone through the Ripassa technique is a deep, ruby red color. It shows intense grapey aromas and is full bodied, balanced and velvety on the palate. This is a real Bell staff favorite!
Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel 2009 (reg. $13.99) SALE $11.99
This great old vine Zinfandel from Lodi and Amador Counties in California is rich and filled with dark fruit notes and spice. The wine has an intense, fruit-forward nose filled with blackberry and dark cherry and a palate of jammy blackberry, raspberry, and cherry with hints of tobacco and spice in the finish.
