We had many tasters in for this pre-holiday weekend! Thanks to everyone for coming by! Don’t forget to join us for our last few tastings of the year! The identity of the Mystery Wine is:
Tamari Torrontes 2009 (reg. $13.99) SALE $11.99
Hailing from La Rioja, Argentina, this Torrontes is elegant with delicate floral aromas. On the palate is a profusion of tangerines, tropical fruit, and hints of hazelnut, vanilla and cinnamon. Other wines in the tasting included:
Sette Venti Quattro Spumante NV (reg. $9.99) SALE $8.99
This Italian Spumante from Trevisio, Italy, is composed of 40% Chardonnay and 30% each of Prosecco and Pinot Noir. Fruity, frothy, and full of soft bubbles, it is light and off-dry on the palate. This was a definite favorite at our Grand Tasting and Saturday tasting.
Worthy “Five Clones” Sauvignon Blanc 2008 (reg. $27.99) SALE $23.99
This Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc combines the best of Sancerre and New Zealand in one bottle. With crisp, fresh melon and lemongrass notes on the nose and palate, it is medium-bodied with loads of fruit. A zest of acidity comes out on the finish. This is a staff favorite, as well as a 90 point-earner from Robert Parker!
Monte Volpe Primo Rosso 2006 (reg. $9.99) SALE $8.49
This blend from the Graziano Family of Zinfandel (65%), Carignane (15%), Petite Sirah (10%), Sangiovese (5%), Negroamaro (3%), and Nebbiolo (2%) has jammy aromas and flavors of ripe blackberry, raspberry and plum. Full flavors, ripe tannins and a nice balance carries through in a long, lingering finish. We’re big fans of the Graziano wines and this is no exception!
Airfield Estates Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 (reg. $23.99) SALE $19.99
Another 90 pointer! The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon also contains small amounts of Malbec and Merlot. It displays soft aromas of blackberry, pencil lead, violets, and spice. A medium-to-full palate with velvety tannins ends in a rich, smooth finish.
Vina Robles Red Blend 2008 (reg. $24.99) SALE $19.99
This Paso Robles blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre has vibrant, dark notes of blackberry and raspberry. Hints of cinnamon and floral characteristics come through on the nose. The palate is savory and medium-bodied with good structure with soft tannins.
Turley Juvenile Zinfandel 2010 (reg. $29.99) SALE $26.99
Turley is known for excellent Zinfandels, and the Juvenile is no exception. It has a dark, inky appearance, and aromas of fresh strawberry and blackberry. A big, lush palate displays pepper and spice characteristics. This wine has a great finish with moderate tannins and fresh and juicy acidity!
