We had a great group of tasters on this unseasonably warm and beautiful Saturday. There were several bottles that received rave reviews -- pick up one and try it! And several tasters identified the grape in the white Mystery Wine. The identity of the Mystery Wine is:
Daniel Gehrs Chenin Blanc 2010 (reg. $15.99) SALE $13.99
We brought in this wine as a customer request, and it is easy to see why it’s popular. Soft floral aromas complement a palate of rich, honeyed flavors. Medium-bodied, and definitely dry, this is a crisp and delicious New World Chenin Blanc. Other wines in the tasting included:
McNab Ridge Tine’s White NV (reg. $9.99) SALE $8.49
Primarily Gewurztraminer, this off-dry white is very aromatic and shows off notes of lychee, apricot and guava. In the mouth, it is smooth and very palatable. Wow your “I only drink sweet wine” relatives with this great wine that you too can enjoy!
Jose Pariente Verdejo 2009 (reg. $23.99) SALE $18.99
With fresh, fruity aromas, this Spanish Verdejo is a touch of spring. On the palate are elegant flavors of passion fruit and citrus. A light finish with a hint of the characteristic bitterness of the varietal makes this a perfect salad or sushi pairing.
Les Amadous Ventoux 2009 (reg. $8.99) SALE $7.99
Cotes du Ventoux is Rhone-adjacent and that comes through in this tasty blend of Grenache (50%), Syrah (40%) and Carignane (10%). With a nice nose of black cherry, it displays raspberry and violet on the palate. Light and smooth, this is a very easy-drinking red!
Trumpeter Malbec/Syrah 2010 (reg. $9.99) SALE $8.49
This blend of Malbec (50%) and Syrah (50%) from Argentina has rich aromas of berry, chocolate and tobacco. Complex flavors of berry fruit, with gamey and toasty notes, and smooth tannins come through on the palate.
Buehler Vineyards Zinfandel 2010 (reg. $21.99) SALE $18.99
This Zinfandel from Napa Valley has rich, dark berry notes on the nose and palate. Lacking the pepperyness of some Zins, it is very smooth and drinkable with a nice long finish. This was a taster favorite!
Mollydooker Maitre ‘D Cabernet 2010 (reg. $24.99) SALE $21.99
Receiving 90 points from Robert Parker, this Australian Cab has notes of black cherry, mocha and a touch of hung meat. Full-bodied, the palate fills the mouth with savory berry flavors supported by crisp acid and a medium level of fine tannins, finishing long.
