Our usual group of favorite tasters joined some new folks today at our tasting bar that offered several new wines and selections we have not tasted in quite some time. The identity of the Mystery Wine is:
Simmonet-Febvre Saint-Bris 2010 (reg. $10.99) SALE $9.99
Surprise! When you think of Burgundy whites, your mind usually thinks Chardonnay. However, the small pocket of Saint-Bris grows Sauvignon Blanc. Gooseberry and fresh, grassy notes come through on the nose and palate. A touch of Granny Smith apple and jasmine flavors are also noted. This wine manages to be both refreshing and creamy at the same time! Other wines in the tasting included:
Finca Torremilanos Monte Castrillo Rose 2010 (reg. $12.99) SALE $10.99
This Spanish Rose is 100% Tempranillo, fermented and aged in stainless steel. Strawberry and rose petal aromas lead to a dry, well-balanced wine, with a solid body of juicy red fruits. If you’re looking for something to remind you of warm summer breezes, pick up this lip-smacking Rose!
Les Amadous 2009 (reg. $8.99) SALE $7.99
Cotes du Ventoux is Rhone-adjacent and that comes through in this tasty blend of Grenache (50%), Syrah (40%) and Carignane (10%). With a nice nose of black cherry, it displays raspberry and violet on the palate. Light and smooth, this is a very easy-drinking red!
Poggio Argentiera Bellamarsilia 2009 (reg. $19.99) SALE $17.99
This Tuscan blend is composed of Sangiovese (85%), Ciliegiolo (10%) and Alicante (5%). Notes of plum and dark cherry come through on the nose and palate. A nice depth in the wine is finished with a silky touch of rustic tannin. Try this great alternative to Chianti!
Falesco Merlot 2009 (reg. $14.99) SALE $13.49
Hailing from Umbria, Italy, the 2009 Merlot received 92 points from Robert Parker. Jammy blueberry and cinnamon come through on the nose and palate. French oak is layered nicely with blackberry notes, as well. At this price, this wine really is an amazing steal!
Ruta 22 Malbec 2010 (reg. $11.99) SALE $10.49
This Patagonian Malbec has dark red fruits and a hint of plum on the nose. On the palate, it is fruity and smooth with fresh acidity and firm, but approachable tannins. This is a more elegant Malbec, sporting fine minerality on a stony finish.
Chateau Julien Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 (reg. $12.99) SALE $11.43
This great Monterey Cabernet has soft cherry and dark chocolate aromas. On the palate, blackberry, dark chocolate and cherry are highlighted by a nice hint of vanilla and spice. Medium body and structure lead to a full, round finish. Check out this new-to-Bell red!
