Saturday Tasting - Wines On Sale!
The wines below are ON SALE through February 25th.
On a lovely Saturday, we had a good group of tasters enjoying many 90+ point wines (and some that should be 90+ points). The Mystery Wine threw of for a loop, however. The identity of the Mystery Wine is:
Oakstone Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 (reg. $17.99) SALE $15.99
This Cabernet was a bit of a stumper! Lighter in style than many Cabs, it is fruit-forward with no harsh tannins. Plum and blackberry come through on the nose, followed by black cherry notes on the palate. Tasty and smooth, this is a very drinkable red in its prime! Other wines in the tasting included:
Hall Sauvignon Blanc 2010 (reg. $21.99) SALE $17.99
This great Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley is textured with citrus, green apple and peach flavors. There is a zingy hint of gooseberry, backed by crisp acidity. The finish is dry, but with a honey note. As the weather gets warmer, this will be a picnic favorite!
Marchetti Verdicchio 2009 (reg. $19.99) SALE $16.99
This Verdicchio is from the Marche (in the calf of Italy). The aromas of this wine are light, with citrus and mineral characteristics. On the palate are lime, mineral, and wet stone notes. Fresh and pleasant, this wine will pair nicely with herbed foods. This was a WOW wine!
Torbreck Woodcutter’s Semillon 2008 (reg. $19.99) SALE $16.99
This Semillon from Australia’s Barossa Valley earned 90 points from Robert Parker. The nose displays strong mineral, melon and waxy notes. Very smooth, concentrated and savory, it is well-balanced and has a creamy finish.
Flavium 2008 (reg. $10.99) SALE $9.49
This Mencia from Bierzo, Spain, received 90 points from Wine Advocate. Rich, round red fruit notes are backed by solid tannins. On the nose is a hint of passion fruit and floral aromas. This wine is perfect for roasts, steaks or grilled foods.
Maculan Brentino 2008 (reg. $17.99) SALE $15.99
This blend of Merlot 55% and Cabernet Sauvignon 45% hails from Italy’s Veneto. This wine is yet another 90-pointer! Dark fruit, violets and licorice come through on the nose and palate. Elegant and fruity, this tasty blend is a great everyday red!
Saint-Eugenie ‘La Reserve’ Corbieres 2009 (reg. $15.99) SALE $13.99
This blend from France’s Corbieres region has rich notes of black currant, brambly berry and black cherry on the nose and palate. A hint of espresso comes through on the velvety finish. Corbieres is a great region for solid, affordable reds and this is one of several great wines we currently carry from that hidden gem!
